New Finish

I finally finished this Blackbird Design journal. I added JAB Co. buttons in place of the chain stitch flowers. I tried to make the flowers but I was not happy with how they turned out. I used a Blackbird Designs fabric on the back and the same fabric for the lining. I hand-stitched the lining on instead of glueing. I am not sure what I am going to put on the inside, I have a lot of papers to choose from.

Crochet or Cross-stitch?

I got a little side-tracked from my "summer to-do list" this past week. I was looking for vintage crochet patterns to make glass jackets and I found this pattern. It was originally a crocheted doily pattern but it looked like cross stitch to me. I don't know what the fabric is, I found this piece in my stash. I used one strand Splendor silk over two threads. This was so much fun, I think I found a new addiction. I have my next pattern already picked out. I just need to find a piece of fabric.

Summer Finish

I was able to finish this quilt last weekend. I purchased the kit two years ago at Chicago Quilt Market held at Rosemont. It was made from a Moda charm pak and pattern provided by Country Threads. It is one of the projects on my todo list for the summer. I plan on taking it to a long-arm quilter for finishing later this summer. I think I give it to Amanda when she buys her new home. It would look so cute hanging up in the back porch.

Cherries

Our village has planted cherry trees along the side of one of the grade schools in town. Anyone is welcome to pick as many as they want.
They are so bright red and the trees are still full of fruit.

In less than an hour we had enough cherries for several pies and other treats. A great dessert for this July 4th weekend.

Vintage Friday, sort of

This weeks vintage item is new and old. I made it this past week, but I used a vintage transfer. I have no idea how old the transfer is. It was included in an Aunt Martha's Hot Iron Taransfer called Kitchen Usefulness. I don't think it is from that collection though, it is not shown on the cover of the envelope. I think the original owner just stuck it in there. The patterns had been cut up and put back in the envelope. I followed the directions on the other transfers and printed it on a towel I found in a cabinet at my mother's. The colors make it look fall-like. I like that. I can put it out in October.

Just another Thursday

No pictures today. I am mending from carpal tunnel repair on my right hand and the removal of arthritis in my finger. I have the stitches removed and start therapy next week. I won't be able to knit or crochet for a while so those projects are on hold until later this summer. As part of my own rehab I have been able to do a tiny bit of cross stitch, about 20 stitches per hour. I hope to be able to use this time to organize some future projects. As always there is so much I want to do.

1st Summer Finish

I finished the stitching on this piece yesterday morning. It is my first monogram. I think it is beautiful. Jim gave me the book for Mother's Day.
