Vintage Friday

Today's vintage Friday is only 20 something years old. I made it for Amanda when she was very little. I don't remember exactly when I made it, but I never "finished" it. I found it last week in a box with other projects that I had packed away years ago.

I think it's from a Vanessa Ann chart. I know it's stitched on 14ct. Aida with DMC floss. I haven't used Aida in years, but this did bring back a lot of stitching memories. There was a time when Aida was our only choice. When I first began stitching I lived in Hawaii and the only fabric I could buy in the stores was white 14ct. Aida from the Philippines. If I wanted a color or smaller count my grandma had to send it to me. I am going to make a banner out of this piece and put it up whenever we have a birthday in the family. I'll give it to Amanda when she has children.

Snowman finish

I started this snowman just after Christmas and finished it this morning. It is my first pattern from Lilipoints. I stitched on 25ct. Lugana over one thread. I don't know what color the fabric is, it came from my stash. I used one strand DMC for my stitching. I am not sure how I am going to finish this piece. I'm thinking about using it on a box.

Vintage Friday on Saturday (again)

I love love vintage embroidery designs and I have a growing collection of transfers. I buy them to use not just collect. This past week I made this set of pillowcases using a design from this set. Simple white cases purchased from Target, DMC floss and a vintage design. I'm happy.

I used colors from the winter quilt that is on my bed. I like to have a lot of pillows on the bed so I need to buy a few more so I can use these all the time.

Vintage Friday

Last month I was looking through some old patterns and found this one from 1971. It was the fourth pattern published by Leisure Arts Company. I bought this copy in 1993 to make a pair of booties for Heather.

I crocheted a pair of these very 70's booties for Heather again this year. Only this time it was as a gift for her third baby due in March.

Once I started crocheting this pair I felt like I could do them by memory. It was a very good feeling. I can remember measuring the loops to make sure they were all the same size, and doing the bottom several times on the first one because I didn't think it was going to work. I remember making the original pair in white and I know I made a few other projects from this book.

First Finish in 2010

This is my first finish for 2010. I actually started this as a wool hooked rug in 2004. I didn't like rug hooking so I put it away for years. Then at Quilt Market I discovered rug punch with wool yarn. It is very hard on my hands but I really liked doing it. It still took me a long time to finish, but I was determined to get it done. The wool came from Kindred Spirits and is hand dyed. I have already started another rug by Blackbird Designs. I have finished the basic design and just need to order wool for the backround. I would like to do a fall rug next.
