Bookmarks

I made these ruffled bookmarks for Kylie and Abbie to give to their teachers. The tutorial can be found here.. I have also been playing around with Piknik to edit my pictures. As you can tell I need a little more practice.

Vintage embroidery kit.

Abbie has been asking me if I would teach her to sew for a while so I have been looking for a project to get her started. I found this kit at the thrift store yesterday. I paid $.66 for the kit, $.16 more than the original clearance price, and I think I got a deal. The kit is unopened and has everything she'll need .I remember taking the bus to Zayre with my grandma and looking at crafts. Often she would buy me something to embroider or crochet. This is my chance to pass on that tradition to Abbie. There is one problem however, I don't know if I want to give this kit up. It's so dang cute.

Vintage Friday

I found this vintage pattern at the thrift store last week. I paid twice the original price...$.50. I love these books but they are getting harder to find in my area. I am looking for finger wt. yarn to crochet the bed jacket seen on the cover. I have wanted to make one for years. I would also like to knit the headband the little girl is wearing in the second picture. The pattern seems fairly easy. I might even attempt the hat the little boy is wearing. Both are very cute.

Kylie's tote

This evening I finished this tote bag as a gift for Kylie while we are on vacation. I actually did the needlepoint a few years ago but never completed it because I couldn't find buttons I liked. I found these last year but still didn't sew the bag because I wasn't sure how to do it with canvas pockets. Last Friday I was looking at Home Sewn by French General and it had the exact bag I wanted to make. I was able to finish it in less than two hours. I have the supplies to make one for Abbie also but I need to finish stitching the background  on the canvas. I should have it done by tomorrow night. I used denim for the outside and fabric left over from the girls quilts to line the inside. I am very happy with the way it turned out. I just might make one for myself later this summer. I have a couple pieces already stitched that would look cute made into a bag.

Vintage Friday

I finished this vintage candlewicking project earlier this week. It went very fast, one morning to do the knots and another to add the trim. When I made my first candlewicking project in the 1980's I didn't like doing the knots. I think I made one pillow and that was enough for me. Recently I found several  kits at thrift stores and gave it another try. I enjoyed doing this small kit and have plans to make a few more things. My grandma loved doing candlewicking and even made a bedspread. I have a couple unfinished Christmas projects that belonged to her and hope to get them done this year.
