Vintage Friday

Today's Vintage Friday are not true vintage, but I think they'll do.
This first is a candlewicking project I made earlier this month. The kit called for it to be made into a pillow, but I wanted to do something different. I just added two border fabrics to make it into a small spring quilt. I am so happy with the way it turned out, I want to make another with the heart candlewicking project. I just need to do a simple quilt pattern and it will be ready to drape on the back of the family room sofa.

This was another fast project, however, it took me two years to start. I had wanted to make a quilt from the panel but I changed my mind when I pulled it out Monday. The instructions say..."The Tiny Tots panel was originally printed as an object book for pre-readers in 1942."
It went together very quickly and makes my nostalgic heart sing.

Jan. KAL

Here is my finished dishcloth from January KAL at KrisKnits. This is not a great picture but I hope you can see the snowman. I've already started February's cloth. I'll post a picture as soon as it's finished.

Fa La La

Here is the first in a series by Little House Needleworks titled Fa La La. I uses the fibers it called for and fabric from my stash. I did not finish it as an ornament to hang on my tree but rather as a decoration to stand on a shelf. I like the simplicity of the piece and its old fashion appeal.

Happy Valentine's Day

Welcome to the Vintage Valentine Party hosted by Joan.

Here are two of my favorite little valentines. I think they are so sweet.

Growing up in a big family during the 60's meant we didn't have a lot of money for extras. However, my parents made holidays, including Valentine's Day, very special. My stepfather always gave my mother a big red heart shaped box of Fannie May candy. It would have a huge bow and lots of ribbon on it. Inside was dozens of fancy chocolates! Then he would give each of us our own smaller red box of candy. I would squeeze each piece until I found the caramel, my favorite. I remember thinking I couldn't wait until I got to have the big box because that meant I was grown up and in love.

Making Progress

I am making progress on the washcloth, I hope to finish this weekend. The finished design is a mystery, I think it might be a snowman.

Knitting

I joined a KAL here. It will be a winter wash cloth when it's finished. I am enjoying it and I'm happy for the chance to work on getting my tension even. I will keep posting pictures as I progress on the project.

A New Craft

I found this kit at a thrift store last summer while searching for vintage embroidery. It was the closest I was able to get at the time. The thrift stores by me are not great for finding many vintage items of any kind, so I bought this to justify the trip. It has been sitting in my attic since I brought it home. Last week when I finished my latest cross stitch project I didn' t have anything picked out to work on so I grabbed this kit. I hadn't done any candlewicking before so it was something new to try. I finished the top in three days and I've already started another top with hearts. I would like to make a small quilt for spring with this as the center block. I will probably add several borders to the main block to keep it simple. I don't have a lot of light or pastel fabric so I need to make a trip to the quilt store. I hope to have it finished by the end of the month. I'll post pictures when it's finished.

Crocheted hearts

I recently found the pattern to crochet these hearts here. I have made them in several sizes simply by changing yarn. I am using the larger ones for Valentine coasters.
